We know we are promoting winter travel. Why would we not?
Who doesn’t like the idea of traveling to a tropical getaway and escaping the cold?
And, while we suggest many places to do this…we are now suggesting Barbados.
A much smaller country than some other southern-bound exotic locales, Barbados is great for relaxation, wellness, and soaking in things like the calm sway of palm trees, the rhythmic ebb and flow of the waves that toes so easily tap towards, or dispersion of time when body and mind feel completely at ease. That is maybe what Barbados is known for.
So, now that we’ve got your attention, here are some of the places to stay, eateries to dine at, and libations to enjoy when you are not enjoying some winter R and R.
The first place we suggest staying is the Sandy Lane Hotel, which is placed right on the beach, has three championship golf courses (45 holes!), and offers a wide variety of spa services. Not to mention four restaurants to choose from, seven bars, eight tennis courts, two padel tennis courts, beachside service, and the Treehouse Club which is great for kids and teens to explore.
Set around a lovely Marina, the Port Ferdinand Yacht and Beach Club Residences offers multiple villas with access to high-end and casual dining options, access to water sports, a water taxi service to surrounding areas, and a children’s activity center. What is really special about this place though is its spa, or the “Sandbox Tree Spa’ where one can find holistic and ayurvedic treatments of the highest order.
Now that we have a good grip on places to stay, let’s look at some of the best places to eat. First comes, The Cliff, from Michelin Star Chef Matt Worswick — this palace for the palette offers an a la Carte menu, a sushi bar, drinks that would make any master mixologist proud, and a cigar room. Second, is the Lone Star Restaurant, which has a large menu certain to satiate any appetite — from classic Caribbean dishes like Jerk Chicken to fresh fish and seafood dishes, with European options as well. Third, we want to suggest Daphne’s, the namesake of the famous Daphne’s in London, which is supposedly Rihanna’s favorite place to dine when in Barbados. This menu is simple, and classic, and demonstrates that class and consistency will always win over our taste buds.
Well, now that we have a good handle on all the pleasures to be had in Barbados. We hope for the chance to get down there sometime soon. The cold will come and we want to be ready!
