For this fifth installment on Colombia, All World Travel would like to highlight the islands of San Andres and Providencia. Located closer to Nicaragua than Colombia, these two islands are in the heart of the Caribbean Sea. Given their remote location and small populations these islands offer an ideal winter escape away from the crowded “more popular” islands.

For those seeking cruises, there are many options to choose from that pass through San Andres and Providencia, among other great locations — such as Miami, Cozumel, the Panama Canal, Puerto Limon, and Cartagena.

For those wanting to stay on the island, we have several nice ideas for places to stay and things to do.

When looking for accommodation in San Andres we suggest the Acantilado de la Tierra and the Casa Las Palmas Hotel Boutique. While in Providencia Island we suggest staying at the Hotel Deep Blue

For things to do, both San Andres and Providencia offer great things to do and both have quite different activities. San Andres is a little more urban and offers scuba tours, off-roading rentals, private boating tours, and restaurants and bars along the beaches of San Luis, Spratt Bight, La Piscinita. Providencia is a little less urban and offers plenty to do for hiking and visiting the national forest of McBean Lagoon and kayaking in Crab Cay.
